Count me in for the lore documentation effort. I have been writing game histories and this would be a great deadline to finish several I have in progress.

The lore is what I focus on preserving. In-game books, quest text, NPC dialogue. When a server dies, all that narrative content disappears unless someone saved it.

The golden age of MMOs: 1997-2004
Was there ever a more creative period in online gaming? In just seven years we got UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, SWG, CoH, and dozens more. Each one tried something completely different.\n\nModern MMOs feel like variations on the same theme. What happened to the experimentation?

Exploration rewards. Old MMOs hid actual content in remote corners of the world. Secret dungeons, rare NPCs, unique items. Modern games just put a marker on the map.
