Arcade cabinets worth preserving

Post by RetroRogue »

Some arcade games exist only in their original cabinet form. No ports, no emulation, just the hardware. CarnEvil with the shotgun controller. Prop Cycle with the bicycle seat. These experiences cannot be replicated.\n\nWhat arcade games are you worried about losing forever?

I have been documenting every arcade in my state that still has working cabinets. Created a database with photos, game lists, and condition reports. We need to know what still exists before we can save it.

The entire Sega Model 3 lineup. Daytona USA 2, Sega Rally 2, Virtua Fighter 3. The hardware is failing and parts are getting impossible to find. Once these boards die, the games die with them.

The entire light gun genre. Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Area 51. These games do not work on modern displays. Without CRT monitors, the original experience is gone.

Polybius. Just kidding. But seriously, the Namco System 246 games like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune. There is a whole racing community built around these cabinets and replacement parts are drying up.
